Colorful Mexican Garments

The picture above shows one of the plazas in Old Town San Diego. I was, as usual, enjoying the wonderful color of the garments and other goods and taking pictures of the Mexican Peasant dresses and blouses.
You can see that some of the tops have sleeves with a simple hem and some have elastic in a casing at the bottom of the sleeve. These particular tops are hand embroidered.
I love this one. It reminds me of blue and white china dishes. All you would need is a variegated blue embroidery thread and some ace embroidery skills to recreate this lovely blouse.
I notice that a lot of the dresses have an embroidery motif right at the stomach level in the front, but I never put this motif on a dress I am sewing because, for one thing, it is a lot more work, and for another, it calls attention to any figure problems you may have in this area.
I don’t know why so many people go through life wearing basic black, brown, or navy when they could parade around in all of the colors of the rainbow.
