I am at long last done done done with the Weekender Travel Bag. My poor hands may not recover for a week, so sore are they from shoving the heavy bag under the needle of the machine and the hand sewing afterward, and all the vicious pin stabs. There has got to be a better way than hand tacking the lining afterwards, and I will think of it because I am not doing that again. But I am going to make the bag again because it is a great size.
I put in one zippered pocket by cutting an extra side lining piece, splitting it and inserting a zipper. A girl has to have a private pocket in her travel bag to stash girly stuff.
I would have to say that this project was the most tiring thing I have ever sewn, including several beanbag chairs. Though now that I think of it, I was much younger then so maybe that makes a difference.
Now, for Torte Thursday we have:
Mrs. Brigham’s Layer Cake (1 egg)
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup crisco
Cream these together well.
Beat 2 minutes
2 cups cake flour (or all-purpose)
1/4 tsp salt
2 1/2 tsp double acting baking powder (or 3 tsp fast-acting)
Add dry mixture to egg mixture alternately with
3/4 cup cold water
Beat 2 minutes.
Bake in 2 small layer pans at 375 degrees until they test done.
